Hi,

I'm currently drawing up plans to make a an outdoor pond which would go on my open air roof top. Anyways here are the plans so far:

Here is the layout for the pond. The inside is going to be lined with pond liner.

Here is a top view of the pond with the layout of the filter.

Finally this is the design of the sump with the overflow drilled through the side of the pond and the liner:

The height of the pond is going to be 30 inches. And the water level at 24 inches.
The layout of the filter might be kind of confusing but. there are gonna be two over flows each independently filtered. Both filters will flow water to the thing in the middle (the sump), where the water is then pumped back into the pond. I plan on making a spray bar that goes to the bottom of the tank creating some bottom movement.

The overflows are going to be 1 inch across each. Correct me if i'm wrong but an 1" over flow would have aprrox. 600GPH so having two i would have a overflow rate of approx 1200GPH right? So i would need a pump that would match exactly the overflow rate? I'm affraid of water level fluctuations between the sump and the pond.

Can anyone see any problems with this setup?

Thanks!

thanks for that stotty. I'm actually going to be building it back in hong kong eventually. I'm going to check the price of a diy filter and a purchased one. I might even get an acrylic sump custom made. But i don't know if acrylic is cheap in hk. For two pieces of acrylic measuring 20"x 15" 1/4" thick would cost approx. 6 quid ($12US) to get cut. From people's experience is that cheap? Coz maybe from there i can work out how much it'll cost to get one custom made.

Another question stotty: You know your pond in your den? Did you build that your self? if you did, did you use a pondliner? I wanted my pond liner to sit flush with the insides of the frame. but i understand this is impossible and there will be folds.

You have probable seen the pictures of my out side pond on here. But I had a problem with the folds in that pond so when I built the fish room indoor pond I looked into it hard if you look at the original thread you can see the preformed liner propped up against the wall of the garage. This way it was 100% leek free no nooks and crannies for detritus to sit and no may the cats could spike it if they had a mad one like TSN do every now and then. I also looked into filtration and bought one of those units it was stinking cheep was over the top for the size of the pond had a UV and was sealed so no coming in and finding empty pond dead fish and wet floor. Hope this is of some help
