I’m looking at buying a used tank that is 270 gallons, it’s 7’ x 2’ x 2.5’. It’s an acrylic tank currently drilled on the sides with those black overflows. I’m interested in housing a stingray pup in here. I know that a sump would be the way to go for a tank this size, I just don’t have any experience building one. Can anybody point me in the right direction for what I would need to do this for this tank? Thank you!

If you want it to run silent, run a Herbie like they describe here. https://gmacreef.com/herbie-overflow-reef-tank-plumbing-method-basics/

How many holes do you have drilled in the tank? 2 per overflow, and 2 black overflow towers? What is the diameter of all the holes drilled? That will tell you what size bulkheads you can put, and then what size drains you can run. The size and number of drains determine total volume of water you can drain, and in turn the size of the pumps you can put in the sump. Approximate drain rate of various sizes of PVC is shown below -- combine that with practical experience from members here to be sure you buy the right size pumps.

thanks for this info! Looks like I have even more research to do, the tank I actually ended up being is glass not acrylic. And isn’t drilled...

You can drill a glass tank as long as it's not tempered glass.
