I moved my mating pair of convicts to a breeding tank after the female killed all of the smaller ones in just a few hours. About a week after I moved them the male went missing. I looked every where I could think of except inside the cave I thought there might be eggs. I thought he just got out some how and my dog ate him. Well yesterday my husband ( sick of hearing my tripping on his disappearance) went searching. When he lifted the cave there was the male dead and half eaten. I never have had convicts to act like this they have always been good parents and took care of them self. She has been guarding her cave like she has eggs, she looked pregnant, but now I don't know. I don't want to leave her alone but I am afraid to put her in any other tank. Any ideas????

What size tank? I'd lower the temperature, which will help reduce some aggression. Then, if you feel you must, I'd put in a large more aggressive fish.

your male probably got sick, female dont kill males (atleast I have never heard of this happening, although male tend to kill females) I wouldnt worry a hole lot I would make sure my water clarity is up to par and then add a new male (a larger one if your worried about her aggression... good luck
