Today at work a customer brought in one red clawed crab and one fiddler crab and I brought them home. Does anyone have any advice that would help like setup, food, temp, etc.? Any help would be appreciated
I keep fiddler crabs in my community tank. Temp stays around 79 to 80. They sift the bottom for left over food . Mostly the flake it seems. They can get out easy so make sure u dont have anything tall for them to climb up and all holes in the lids are small enough they cant get out.
If you can't find them in the tank look in the closet, thats where I found my last one. I thought I had the tank covered pretty good but he got out through the space in between the filter and the hood.
It's sad that very few truly freshwater crab species, if any, are available to aquarists... There are columbian, brazilian, and central american species that are true FW that are actually the majority of the diet for many catfish and cichlid species... they would go a long way towards creating accurate biotope aquaria.
