Help with cuban sex please

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This one is about 3 Inches long and has taken quite some time to get to this point. I initially started out with 3 in a 40 breeder to grow them out enough to go in with the larger fish. All 3 fish looked very rough and I ended up losing 2 within a week. This one was eventually treated with metro/prazi after salt didn't help. I'm on month 3 of owning this fish and the last month it has finally started to add a little size any idea what sex this one may be or is it still to small to sex?

It's really hard to tell until their fuller coloring comes in. I got 6 from TUIC a while back and initially they all had the same coloring and such as this one. Give it another couple months. If the bottom half of the fish turns mostly black, it's female. If the pattern stays more like this (but fuller), it's a male. I ended up with 3 males and 3 females, but all of them looked like this until they grew up a little.

Out of context, this has a very funny title.

Note the difference in profiles.
The female is more torpedo shaped, and the dark color in the dorsal is solid.
The color in the dorsal of the male is mottled and the head profile is steeper.

Thank you for the detailed response.
Do some of the females get a bump on their head? I know I've seen some females that were pretty impressive but can't recall if they had a knot on their heads.
