Hi All

I need some help with my GT"s tail.
I believe a Salvini is responsible for this but im not 100% sure.

Will it heel up to its former glory or is it to badly damaged?

I removed him this afternoon and placed him in a 55gal tank by himself and will be doing 25% water changes daily for a week or 2 before I put him back in my 150 gal tank.

Temp is 26 degrees Celsius and i haven't added any meds or chemicals to the tank.

Attached is a pic of the damaged tail in question.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Looks like bite marks.
Salt will help him heal quicker and avoid infection. Keep an eye out for fin rot. His tail should grow back fine. The bottem fin probably wont look like it did.

yeah like others have said it looks like bite marks to me, and doesnt look that serious so i wouldnt see why he would be back to new in a week or two

It should grow back with no problems. Daily water changes with a teaspoon of salt for added to every gallon you put back in will increase the rate at witch it will grow back.

I think i have to apologize to my Salvini lol as I now believe the culprit is my Clown Knife.

I came home this afternoon to find my Tex had his tail bitten almost in half and the only fish with a mouth that could fit into that long a bite is my CK.
The bite was almost completely rectangular (if that is the right way of putting it) and about 3" long.

My Salvini is only about 6" long so he couldn't manage a bite that long and the only other biters in the tank big enough to inflict a bite like that is my JAG's and there mouths are much wider so they would have taken a much bigger bite(and they don't bother any other fish)

After watching the tank for about an hour I could see that the Tex would completely go insane as soon as the CK came near it and that the CK was biting at its tail as soon as the Tex swam past him.

Well a long story short the CK is now in a 400gal "retirement" tank at my local LFS and i have credit for any fish they get in that i like.

Hope the tail biting is now a thing of the past.

Im happy to say that my GT's tail is healing up nicely and it should be back to normal by next week.I was quite surprised to watch the healing process day by day and to see how much it healed up during each night.

It will usually grow back but keep an eye on weekly growth and leave it single in the tank.while it recovers.do partialwater changes..
