I'd like to add drip systems to my tanks that are not drilled on running w/d. I've seen some good plans for making pvc overflows but what I was wondering is it possible to do a drip on a tank without a sump - can the overflow be directed to the drain?

I found one thread that sounds like he's trying to do the same thing but I'm not sure. Particially because I don't know what an aqualifter is, here's that thread http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=175213&highlight=drip

Can anyone give some guidenance? Is it even possible or do I have to setup w/d's for all of them? TIA!

Yes you can do the overflows directly to the drain. An aqualifter is a diaphragm pump that can lift air and water. This is useful and sometimes needed for low flow overflows like those of a drip system. The intake would be at the highest point in the siphon of the overflow and the output would be above water level in the tank. This keeps bubbles from forming in the top loop.

I am a member of another forum and a drip system with 12gallons per day keeps the nitrates down below 10ppm on a 135g tank.

Good luck

Thanks, can you give me a little more direction on how to make it work? Would an overflow like the ones pictured work (and stay primed? Would they still need an aqualifter?

Why don't you just drill the very top of the tank, run a bulkhead and a hose to drain ?

Fool proof...peace of mind and it's easy to use..

With powerlifter, can you imagine what can happed when you have power outages ?

I drill all my tanks that have no sump on a drip..even the 20 gallon QT tank

B would work. Check out Neoprodigy's thread. Its a different type of overflow that you could use. I'll see if I can dig up the link.
