My ebjd looks and acts healthy but he doesnt eat anything. He caught ich 2 weeks ago and I cured it for about a week straight and it worked amazingly. I also treated him with Jungle Parasite Clear for 4 days and nothing seems to be working. I've also done alot of water changes too. It just isnt eating at all which worries me and the ebjd is getting very thin. It is about 4 inches and looks extremely nice. Any ebjd experts out there want to help?

Q: how long have you had him?
Q: what are your water parameters?
Q: is the EBJD alone or with other fish?
Q: besides the battery of meds he's gone through in the last two weeks, has anything else changed?

I can usually get my EBJD to eat by offering him brine shrimp or artemia shrimps

others have had excellent results with bloodworms (which I don't use, but it sounds like you're getting desperate)

EBJDs can be a bit delicate; it sounds like maybe you could ease up on the frequent water changes and just give him time to settle down after all the meds

Ive had the ebjd for 3 weeks and he is alone in a 10 gallon quarantine tank. I set the tank up at 85 degrees along with air pumps for more oxygen and I'll check for the ammonia and nitrates etc. later on when I get my test kits. And he has also developed black tiny spots on his gill plates and body within the last two weeks. It looks like black spot disease to me, but I'll try to get a picture. I've also gotten him to eat california blackworms and I am currently using garlic guard on the blackworms to boost up his immune system. I've read on another board that having a female JD will help my ebjd recover which I am assuming that my ebjd is a male. And thanks for your input. I guess I freaked out and used too much meds and didnt let the ebjd rest. I need to settle down. :D

funny thing about EBJDs is that they go through several color changes that don't really mean anything . . . when I got mine at 1.5", he was a sort of powdery blue; later, around 2 - 2.5", he started to turn black . . . now, at 3", he is developing into a new darker blue . . . from what I've read, it's all normal and just part of the process

what made you set the tank at 85 degrees? to my mind, that's the extreme end of where I'd keep an EBJD; I keep mine at 78 and he's been fine. at higher temps, you may be putting unnecessary stress on his metabolism . . . I'd suggest knocking the temp down below 80, see if that helps

Thanks for the suggestion. The ebjd are very fragile fish and I would've never thought they were this susceptible to diseases and such. The little black spots are all over his body now and I'm afraid it might be some kind of parasite. His eyes are also getting cloudy and seem to be popping out. What should I do for treatment?

hmm cloudy eye that is popping out is popeye. Its usually a bacterial infection and ive treated it with Maracyn AND Maracyn Two (or I have used erythromycin in the past). treat for 5-7 days and see from there.

the black spots sound parasitic. its usually a cyst from a parasitic worm larvae.

from what ive read on the black spots-its not usually fatal, and the parasite dies off. keep your ebjd in quarantine while treating the popeye and dont put it back with the others til the spots go away.. then sanitize the quarantine tank with diluted bleachwater...

just my .02 cents but its what i would do..

I wouldn't go below 80 on the temps with EB's. My EB tank is between 83-85. It is also well oxygenated. I also run a UV sterilizer. Its been close to a year now running my tank like this and I haven't had one get ill on me yet (fingers crossed).

Sounds like he/she is developing popeye as well. I would of kept going with the JPC as well until I noticed a difference in his behavior. 4 days is not very long of a treatment. I would throw some salt in the water, leave the temps where they are and start medicating immediately. Being I have no experience with macaryn and very good results with JPC, I would start with that. Popeye will kill him/her (rather quickly too) if not treated right away.

How is his/her poop looking?

if Erik says keep it in the 80s, I'd go with that; he keeps more EBJD than I ever have . . . still seems on the high end to me, but I defer to experience

personally, I'll bet in both our situations it is the UV that helps more than the temps

one more thought: a 4-day treatment of JPC is two courses, which I think is about what is recommended, although you can go to three. I am assuming you are following their directions (?)

any chance you can post a pic of your fish? could be very helpful . . .

I agree with Erik and Sab 80s and I would say UV is a must for EBJD's.

Alright thanks for the help ladies and guys. I can see tiny parasitic worms in the tank, so I went ahead and bought coppersafe and maracyn-tc as a combination to treat both the popeye and external parasites. My ebjd is eating blackworms like a champ so far and his poop is looking normal. I will definitely get a UV sterilizer for the ebjd after I am able to medicate and treat my ebjd. I'll try to post a picture later. Hopefully my ebjd heals! Crossing my fingers.
