Ive been running two emp 400s on a 90 for a little over a year now. They have been thoroughly cleaned monthly, water tubes for bio wheels, disassembled and cleaned impellers etc. Lately Ive noticed they arent putting out as well as they used to, which leads me to my question...What do you guys think the problem is here? Its not the filter cartridges and baskets slowing it down either as they are not clogged, Do I need to order some new impellers you think? Thanks guys.

Remove the small grey clips on the end, don't put any twisting pressure they snap easily. Then pull the spray bars straight out. Use a Hose brush to clean them. I also enlarged the holes on my spray bars. As for the intake tube I use a small dish towel and feed it through a couple of times using the handle on a wooden spoon. Only problem I ever had was the small spaces that the bio wheels rest in getting gunked up and stopping them from spinning. I have a toothbrush dedicated to cleaning this spot.

2 of them here the older one is a used one i picked up about 7 years old the guy said. the other is 3 years old. The used one runs better, go figure.

Is the intake tube gunked up? The Spray bars? I know it says you clean them every month. But That's where I'd look.

It's neither of those, both units are thoroughly clean...I'm thinking it has to be a mechanical issue, just not sure what. Leaning towards impeller though.
