Hi,
I have in my 100 Gallon tank the following:
3 - Parrot Fish (3" - 4")
2 - Tiger Oscars (5" - 6")
1 - Jardini Arowana (6"-7") - Will be upgrading when he gets bigger.
2 - Blue crawfish
I feed my fish twice a day, I put in mini cichlid pellets for my Parrot fish then I drop in Hikari floater pellets for my arowana. The problem is my Oscars eats ALL of them before my arowana has a chance to get to.
If I drop in more, the arrowana catches on and finally eats, but the oscars starts to spit out what they have in their mouth and tries to eat it all up. The problem is what they spit out dirtys my tank a lot and end up all over the place. I'm worried this will raise my ammonia/nitrites/nitrates in the tank.
What I've done in the past which I don't like doing is feeding feeders to my oscars first then putting in the pellets and hikari sticks, while the oscars are trying to digest the feeders this gives my arowana ample amount of time to eat the floaters. The end result is all my fish eats and my tank isn't as dirty from food.
I'm running a fluval 405 and do bi-weekly water changes. My water conditions are:
Ammonia: 0
Nitrites: 0
Nitrates: 5
PH: 8.0
I don't want to keep feeding feeders because of lack of nutritional value and diseases. Is there anything else I can do?
