As many of you know i have a festae i believed to be a mayan. She looks to be very stressed. What can i do to help her get her color back. I traded in 2 tankmates to lessin the tank stock. She follows my pike and convict around like she's showing them whose boss. During the past few hours after removing 2 fish I have seen some blues on her and light reds i think but nothing like i see from other female festaes on here. Any help would be great...

Water changes and feed her good pellet food. It will take some time but she will get her color back.

Since you just got her, she'll need a little time to adjust to her new surroundings. Keep up with the water changes, feed a good pellet, and she'll do the rest. Mine liked to eat Bloodworms on occasion. Their colors can become dark or washed out when stressed. So just make sure that she's not getting into fights with your pike. As the days go by you will be able to see the difference in her color and behavior. Once you get your bigger tank up, you can find a large male Festae (with caution) and then you'll really see her colors pop.

already talked to my buddy at the lfs about getting a male in a few months. I feed most of my fish worms and large krill. Should i get pellets?

Yeah, you want to get her on a staple of a good brand of pellets. Worms and krill are still great foods to offer, but a quality pellet will make sure that your fish gets the balance of nutrients that it needs to grow healthy and show really nice colors. Water changes made a world of difference with the growth and look of my Festae.

just looked at the add and i would love to get one but im getting married in less than 3 months and my fiance would kill me. But after the wedding i will be looking for a male

You're a smart man! Take care of your future wife above all else. The fish can definitely wait. Maybe some of the cash that you get as a gift can go towards a Festae.

I will be looking for a male around here for the next few months. Amale festae is the only thing that will get me to trade in my jag or red wolf
