I have a 75g tank with 3 larger oscars and a pleco. Right now I have a sponge filter and a Marineland Emperor 400 and it sucks! I want to switch to a canister filter but don't know much about them. What is the best brand and one that is not loud.

Please help!
Thankss ☺☺

Canisters are a pain in the arse to clean, because they are generally not user friendly.
And you may have heard they need to be cleaned less than other filters, but there is nothing magical about a can under pressure that makes it any better than any other filter, or makes it less necessary to clean.

Agree. You are better off to get a second HOB. Oscars generate a lot of waste and HOBs are best for mechanical because it is easy to clean. Canister is just a big can to hide waste which is PIA to clean. But I will stay away from Emperor but use simpler HOBs such as Penquin or Aquaclear. Maintaining the spray bar and biowheels in Emperor is just complication you can do without.

Having 3 juvenile oscars is fine in 75 temporarily. Eventually, you'll have to thin out to one or get a bigger tank.

Just get one or two ac110s for that bioload.

Fluval FX5 is my favorite canister filter. It has a lot of room for bio and the sponges do a great job of keeping the water clear. The Eheims may or may not be quieter, they are more expensive, but are excellent canisters as well.

For a 75, just stick two AC110s on there and call it a day.

3 Oscars in a 75 is a lot imo....just an fyi

Eheim classic series is the best canister made. But add a canister and keep the HOB filter.

Thanks for all the advice! I have a 120 gallon the the bigger oscar will be going in. I just gotta get a filter and the glass tops for it.
