OK it is almost time to have this totally narrowed down. 96X30X30 housing I hope 2 Armatus if they don't want to kill each other (probably only one) each around 13"s. My goal is to get another Silver Aro (my last one 16" died when seams busted on tank), Another Royal Ppleco (which had the same fate).
I really want to try and put an Vit ATF in to complete my dream tank (FW anyway) I know the growth rate is slower than the Armatus so I better get going on the grow out process..
Question is what else??? Or should I leave it at that?
Possibly move some of my Raphs (spotted and striped) from the Ps tank and I can't really think of anything else....
What would u guys do?? Keep a large uncrowded space for the Aro, Armatus, and hopefully an ATF to really grow out?? Or beef up the "stock" a little more??? Maybe some clown loaches??
I think I would prefer something else on the bottom. I think 1-2 big Armatus with a huge Aro and hopefully a nice ATF is a lot for that amount of space..
If your bored please give some input.
Filtration will be a massive W/D and an FX5 with one powerful powerhead to keep current up a little.

I'd say at least a dozen beefy Silver Dollars. You're going to need Dithers.

How long are you planning on keeping them in this tank? I was just having a discussion with another Armatus keeper and both agreed that they should go to a 4 foot deep tank at 16-18inches.

These fish are skiddish. Don't care if they don't seem like it. The guys out in Cali that just lost BIG Armatus will tell you the same thing. They crash into things. They NEED room. Lots of it.

Hmmm, ya thats why I am kind of leaning to the thats all in the top and mid lvls of the aquarium.
I am getting ready to plan the next tank here pretty soon. It will be 10FTX48X48 probably, but not sure yet.

I still think at this point the more fish you have in the watercolumn the better your chances of the Armatus cohabbing.

Forget space right now, what you need is fish wall to wall. That way the aggression is dispersed. Silver dollars move fast enough that the Armatus won't even know what to do.

be careful though with armatus and SD's, i thought they would make good dithers until they get SHANKED!!! My armatus shanked a big SD.

i think thats the general purpose of a dither.

If anyone gets shanked you want a cheap dither to get it.

thats why SD's and tinfoils are popular. The swim all over and alot and they can be replaced cheap.

I agree with dithers.

I can look around to see if I can find some somewhat decent sized SDs or tinfoils (I actually like Tinfoils pretty much)...Just not sure if I can get anything large enough though.
Point taken though for the dithers. I think if I have to rely on them then I am in big trouble and might scrath the idea all together. The solid divider was removed early yesterday I think it was and all seems ok so far.

If you get the arow they are gonna fight, most arows that I've had or seen anyone have, had pretty bad attitudes when they got big, and that armatus isn't going to like that crap and rip off it's face.

There's nothing like one big nasty fish in the tank alone, keeps aggression high, keeps the tank cleaner. Just looks bad @$$.

If your gonna do vitts then get 3 of them, one alone with that thing has NO chance and do some rays in the bottom.

When I put my armatus in, it's going to be approx half the size of my brevis if that helps you at all.
