I have gotten my first Oscar, he's in a 75 with a convict and JD. The convict is unrelenting the. I took a good long time to acclimate him, almost 3 hours. He seems really lethargic. Is this normal?

thats pretty normal, just make sure your perimeters are okay. They are a very timid fish the first few weeks, mine hid for almost a month before they were comfortable. Sudden movements can really set them off too. But for the most part just watch the aggression level with the JD and Convict picking on him, Oscars are not by nature aggressive they just have a big appetite.

Thanks O,

Yeh I waited until I had 2 weeks of stable params before I put him in there

:iagree: I normally like to buy Oscars a little larger than the rest of my fish so they don't get beat up. Too late now but he'll be fine soon since he will grow much faster than them. Just make sure he gets enough food and the others don't take it all.

The best advice I can give you is filtration and water quality Oscars suffer from hole in the head worse than any other Cichlid. Heavily filtering the water and regularly large water changes in a small tank are a must. You probable know by now that they are very messy eaters. So keep that tank clean.

I have never owned an Oscar myself but the ones that I have seen never seem to do much so I would say that being lethargic is probably par for the course.

I hope your convict is almost an adult cause your O is gonna grow fast enough that he might look like a meal one day.

Oscars are infamous for wanting to make themselves seem as small as possible, so dont be alarmed when you see it laying on it's side on the sides of the tank, plants ect. Just keep that water nice and clean and watch out for your smaller guys, and you'll do fine.
