I just recently picked up two flowerhorns one male and one female and the female has been digging holes and the male changed from a very vibrant color to black... is this because of malnutrition or is it normal mating patterns.. any advice would be appreciated thx

lol is this normal? or is the male stressed .. we have other cichlids in the tank .. and our tank is so deep I would have to go scubadiving to fish them out *lol*

They should still be in a quarantine tank with easy access and for observational purposes...All cichlids show "stressed" patterns....Tell us more...what are your params compared to the lfs? What temp is your tank?

nitrites and nitrates are fine and the PH is normal.. we just upped the temp to 82 it was at 79 i was told upping the temp would help with the breeding process ... i tried catching them its really hard.. maybe next water change ill try and catch them and put them into my other tank

What is the Ph?????????? If you want some answers you are going to have to be more specific....Do you even test for Ph? Do you have any test kits? Please post some results if you want help....Fish do things for a reason sometimes and no reason at all at times...Help us help you. Or are you just bored and need someone to chat with?

no no i am new to this stuff i dont know what all the lingo means.. we have those little test strips for nitrites, nitrates, and ph .. it doesnt give me an exact number just a color what kind of test kit do u recommend.. sorry again..

No problem bro :) Go get a "master test kit" Of any kind and you will be better off. The strips are a waste of money. The master test kit is easy to use and you get thousands of test compared to the 13 that come in the strip jar...Your water is probably drastically different then what they just came from...They should be just fine. Keep those water changes (WC's) going often and do not over feed...Good luck :)
