I have two fx-5 on my 300 gallon tank. one is getting air into the filter. i have to unplugged it for it to stop the loud bubble sound. the intake is not near a air stone and there is no air leaks in the hoses. what could be causeing this. my other fluval is fine and works great. its just one that is messed up.

They only do this when they are plugged and need to be cleaned. Or you have to much media stuffed in the center compartments. If you are using the Blue pad that comes with them, take it out and throw it away, they plug way to fast. I use ceramic rings and XP4 pads cut to fit in mine and do not have this problem any more.
Hope this helps you.

ya i have normal amounts of media in there. i dont use any type of pads or anything like that. what i ment by unplugging it is its so loud i have to unplug it and then plug it back in and it runs quit for about day then back noisy again and i can see some air bubbles coming out of the outtake in the tank.

Im by no means an FX5 guru but I have read everything I can get my hands on about them, and it seems the gasket on the lid is the culprit of air getting into the filter the majority of the time. Try and find some aquarium safe silicone lube, put a thin coat of lube on the gasket and try again. Also keep in mind that if air is getting into the filter it is a leak along the intake tract, and will not let water out but only air in. If there is a leak along the output tract then the posative pressure would be pushing water out in the form of a leak. Good luck and please let us know how it turns out so we might be able to glean some knowledge from your experiance. :)
