what are some of the best recipes for food for south or central american cichlids??
.
all recipes are fine, but i would really like some for fast but not unhealthy growth, and extremely good colors.

just experiment with stuff from the seafood section at your grocery store :)

is there any way to make pellets?? if so how?????

I think the only way to get something similar to a pellet is to bake it. Which i don't recommend. Try a frozen food, I follow the steps in this http://www.gcca.net/howto/fish_food.htm, but use different foods.
I use...
-Turkey hearts
-shrimp with shell
-peas
-garlic
-good staple flake food
I sort of use what I have around. I use turkey heart instead of beef heart because it is much leaner.

do you use gelatin??

ok. know this is an old post but for some reason it won't let me start a new thread and this fits..
does anyone see anything wrong with this home-made fish food recipe i found online for my sa/ca cichlids, the carnivoure part

BASIC/GOLDFISH/CARNIVOURE

Whole Salmon: 25% 20% 30%

Peas: 25% 25% 15%

Egg: 20% 15% 25%

Brine shrimp: 15% 15% 15%

Spirulina Powder:10% 15% 5%

Wheat Germ: 0% 5% 0%

Squid: 0% 0% 5%

Fish Oil: 2% 2% 2%

Corn Starch or Gelatin: 3% 3% 3%

the starch is so i can dehydrate to make a flake/pellet or gelatin if i want to freeze it.
