Here are some pics of my lung. As I said in my last post it was sold as annectens but I sort of doubt it, doesn't look like any pics of annectens I have seen. Could it be some sub. of annectens? I have seen one or two pics on this site that are definatly the same species, none in the states. One is a u.k. keeper showing pics of a fish in a u.k. lfs. Any help I could get with i.d. would be great. If any one would like different pics to aid I.d. let me know I will take them and post them a.s.a.p. ,thanks in advance.

it is an annectens. But i'm sorry i can't help you narrow it down to subspecies level.

subspecies ID is not certain to any extent these days, and the appropriate literature on that ID is scarce at best.

the fish is a Protopterus annectens (West African lungfish - aka WAL), with a unique pattern--

Yes - a nice P. annectens. As E Americanus says, subspecies are pretty much inconclusive when it comes to looking at these guys.

Thanks guys I was a little unsure as it has very little of the markings associated with the majority of annectens. I love the way it looks. All around great fish, part of the family in a way none of my other fish have become. I am getting it a 180 gal next month. This is my one big fish and I think next year at some point I will build it a 8'x3'x2' plywood tank. So many projects so little everything.
