I took home this little guy after finding him in walmart with another one that was dead. I don't buy fish from walmart but I couldn't let him stay there. Anyways. I have tried to look him up so I can give him the proper care and a chance at survival but no luck.. he (or she) was labeled "orange spotted pleco".

At this point I don't even know if he eats wood, or meat, or veggies, I dropped in extra food for my cories hoping he would get some.

So, if anyone can tell me what I have and proper care or point me somewhere to find out for myself, I would really appreciate it. I really want him to make it but its hard without knowing the needs.

Hard to tell from the picture. I hope your glass is dirty, otherwise, you have an ich problem. It appears to be a Glyptoperichthys joselimaianus, L001. Better pics will help to confirm this.

Its the glass, don't worry. Good news is though he is now eating a catfish wafer. I was really worried he might starve. Bad news.. just now when I went to go take another better picture my snail scared him away! I tried to get a pic while his fin was up but I wasn't fast enough.

it does look like he could possibly be the one you linked to,... .[THIS] looks much like him. spots not as big but that could be because hes very young/small?

I will cook up some peas for him. I should remove the skin, right?

Yup.. thats a little L001.

Dont worry..they wont starve as long as there is anything edible in the tank :D

Best to feed it on a mix of fresh veges, pleco (algae) tablets and the occasional meaty treat. They will eat algae, especially when they are small, but as they get bigger they need extra food.

They will grow to about a foot long though, not quite as big as a Gibby or Common, but still a very impressive fish :headbang2

Nice, thanks for posting those pictures.....I have the same pleco and have been trying to figure out what it was for the longest, now I know. Thank you again

If you feed him really well he might be 8" long in 12 months time. So you have a while to look for a bigger tank ;)

It's worth getting him a bigger home, they are pretty hardy and easy to look after. Expect him to live for 15years if he has a decent tank.

You have made the step into monster fish with that little fellow ;)

Cheers

Ian

This is my bigger Goldspot, about 8" long.
