Unfortunatly this is my first post, I wish it could have been a better one but...
My ID Shark isnt swimming around. He's just kinda laying between a plant and a rock for the past 2 days, I hoped he would snap out of it. I have a Dwarf Puffer, 2 Red Clawed Crabs, and a few smaller fish in my tank. I've checked the nitrates and nitrites and all that good stuff and its all fine other than nitrites which are slightly showing up. I did roughly a 40% water change and he's still just laying there. Everything else in the tank is perfect, water is clear and all the other fish/crabs are acting totally normal.
Anyone have any ideas whats up?
Thanks
Rob

What size tank? ID sharks get huge, about 42" if they have the space. Just a little fyi. When did you get him? If you just got him recently he might still be adabting...plus sometimes IDs just chill, mine hides under logs all the time but it's normal. Check at night when the lights are off, he shoudl be out and about by then...if not let me know..

He's still small at like 3-4 inches and has plenty of space to swim around, i've had him for over 2 weeks and since like day 3 he's been totally fine. I'll definatly check him out tonight and see if he's moving around. He moved this morning for food but then just went straight back so idk. I didn't mention but I also have a pleco and I never see him during the day but he's always out when I get up in the morning before the light comes on but I didnt think that ID's were like that

Well, I would definantly check tonight...but you have to understand also that IDs are naturally very skittish fish, and when they find a spot they like to feel secure they usually will stay there. Minetends to either seek the top corners of the tank or under the fake plants...he should come around. He may also have ich, do you see any white spots on him if so you should go out and get some aquarium salt and turn the temp up to like 84 I think it is..

it may be that he is afraid, or the dwarf puffer/other fish is attacking him.. i heard some puffer can be mean at some point.. but like diskboy ask you, how big is ur tank...?? cause some ID shark are afraid of tight and confined tanks.. i might be wrong.. but that my thinking...

Just went and looked and he probably doesn't have ick cause there is nothing on him...its a 55 gallon tank and I know it needs a bigger tank down the road and im always happy to get another tank and im looking for a bigger one cause i want to make this one a puffer/ invert tank. I had 2 DP's but now there is only 1 and I can only assume the ID ate it cause there are no parts anywhere...could it have made the ID sick? I doubt it but im just trying to think of options. Though you guys could definatly be right and he could just be comfortable chilling in that spot

also yeah about the DP attacking the ID, I saw the DP nipping at the ID's fins yesterday while the ID wasn't moving and the ID just put up with it, which is what made me a bit concerned. I figured the ID would have jet cause I know there easily spooked.

I doubt the ID ate it as they are not piscivorous, meaning they don't eat fish in nature, they stick mainly to plant matter and suck, I would blame the crabs for not finding a carcase. DPs really should be in a much smaller tank so they can forage for feed, in such a large one they will not be able to find much food. A 10 gallon would do much better. I also hope you upgrade to a much much larger one when he gets about 10-11", because 55s are only 12.5" wide. I am building mine a 6-8' round insulated pond for mine and a few other larger cats, and even that will probably need to be upgraded eventually...but for now he is fine in the 55. Mine is growing out in a 55 as well.

thanks for the ideas...idk what was up but he's back to normal now swimming around and eating
As for ID's not being piscivorous idk about that, i know for a fact that mine has eaten a rosy red cause 1 i put in for the crabs was missing and the ID had one of those big fat bellies cats are known for

haha..he was probably hungry or the DP got sucked up in the filter haha =)..
