Hi guys,

Was looking for some help with an id, i got this guy from work recently and it was labled Vieja Synspilum.

There were 3 and they had been at the store from before i worked there, so im not 100% there Synspilum. They were sperated with dividers due to the largest one beating on the other two. The yellow marks/blotches on its side and face are areas where its still healing.

When he gets angry he gets vertical stripes and goes very light throught the body and dark in the fins, you can see them in photo 2 and 4. The last photo is what he looks like most of the time.

Sorry about the first few pics there off my phone.

Wisher

Hes peeling, Not healing.

If I had to guess I would say Fader Flowerhorn X Syn. Could be anything with rd/midas gene really. Syns are ofter crossed with Red dragons and Kamfas creating a super red syn/ or red monkey/ or rose queen/ or red shock/ or rainbow kings. This is a differnt variation of that. One that I personal have never seen. Could be called a super orange syn. He is very nice looking, Cant wait to see him fully faded... If he does.

It's a P. fenestratus. They have a form endemic to Lake catemaco that has a color morph. The vertical barring fits, as in Latin fenestra means windowed, having windows, gaps or openings in relation to the barring.

Australia also has a different variety of "marbled" or "piebald" fenestratus that was selectively bred a couple years ago. I'd put money on this being your fish.

Nice looking fish!

IMO it looks like a Parrot x syn

I'd have to say fenestratus aswell, though it has facial features reminiscent of something from the Amphilophus genus.
Hard to say, as it could be a hybrid.

Thanks for the replys everyone.

Very interesting thank you for your reply. I can see alot of my fish in the pictures of the "marlbled" or "Piebald" except he does not have any white. The head and colours around the head look the same, but where they are white he is blue/green.
You can see in the pic of the "marlbled" how simular the heads are. The second photo shows the colours in his body (sorry its not in focus)

Perhaps he is one of the strains used in these "malbled" morphs?

Does anyone know the species used in the breeding of the "Marlbled" morphs that i could check out?

The species used is P. fenestratus. It's not a hybrid, just a line bred specimen.

The colors of the morphs can range from white, red, pink, orange, or any combo of the above so don't let the white and orange throw you.

You can also Google "pink fenestratus" to see the variety available in the USA.

I'd guess synspilum x RD/midas. Body shape looks wrong to be a pure Vieja/Paratheraps. The body shape looks Amphilophus.
