Hi,

I’m going to try and make a K1 media
filter for small koi pond. It is a 14 Gallon
water barrel. 27”H x 15”Dia.

There will be no mechanical filtration stage. I have seen various builds online and not sure what is best vs. lowest maintenance.

Does adding swirl pipe help? It can clog
up pretty quickly?

The DC pump/hose currently use is 1”
for filter intake. I also have 1.5” for out take. Can I stick with these sizes?

The shower filter I built works but is
too much mainenancec with cleaning
media pads plus guck built up on the
BHM itself.

How much of a gap is needed between the air stones and K1 media? I plan to use 2x 4inch air stone discs.

This will be indoors so must be leak/overflow proof.

Thanks

I don't quite understand your design. Is the 14g barrel a sealed vessel? If it is a sealed container what is going to keep it from filling up with air and all the water draining back into the pond? Is this barrel above or below the water level of the pump? You have one water input and 2 water outputs? One of the outputs looks like it might be setup as an overflow?... I think you are going to need an overflow output to keep water in the barrel.

It might help if you labeled the pipe you have pictured with what their purpose is.
