Right now im using a Eheim 2217 on my 55g and im wanting a lil more filtration, the Eheim works great, just doesnt seem to pick large particles. I have a Marineland Penguin 350 HOB filter i bought last year and used it for about 6 months and it kept getting louder and louder. Once i got the Eheim, i took off the 350.

I cleaned it all up the other day, and plugged it in, and it growls and vibrates bad. I checked the impellor and it looks fine, not sure what is the prob. It doesnt look bent or anything, and its clean.

Is there a common issue with this filter, or maybe a fix? If anyone knows, please help. Thanks.

try soaking the impellar in white vinegar i had a similsr thing happen to an aquaclear after a few Hours in vinegar the noise and grind were gone ,have not a problem since.

I have 2 of these filters. Check the impeller for grooves in the magnet. I have had to replace an impeller in one filter before. The noise stopped once the new impeller was installed.

Is there any local shops to get the impellor? Cost?

I got lucky with finding an impeller. My local lfs just happened to have a box of marineland impellers and spare filter parts. He only charged me $5 out the door :grinno:. You might try e-bay or the marineland website if your local lfs doesn't carry the part you're after.
