I started building my stand but need some help. My tank is 5x2x2. My stand is 39" tall.

Anyone built a stand for an acrylic tank before? Do I HAVE to support the entire bottom of the tank? Like put plywood for support.

What kind of wood should I use for the sides of th stand?

Will have picture of the stand when I'm home.

Yes you want to support the entire bottom of the tank. Styro would be advisable also. The top you want 3/4" ply, the sides can be 1/2".

i used plywood and 2x4's. had them cut to exact measurements at lowes. 3/4 in plywood for everything. i think 1/2 inch would work on the sides though

I used 1/2" plywood for the top of my stand. No need to go to 3/4", just make sure there is plenty of support.

The sides could be card board if the supports (2 x 4's) under it are fine. I would use 3/4" on top though.
