Hi and welcome.

Breeding malawi's is pretty simple if you follow some basic rules.
Do regular water changes, 20% on a weekly basis. Make sure your water parameters are correct, PH etc. Give your fish enough rocks and hiding places. I initially had gravel in my one tank and found the other tank with sand was easier to keep. I would therefore recommend a corral grit/ sand mix. This will also allow you to grow some Vallisneria in the tank. This plant stands up quite well to the batterings mbuna can give. Try and have atleast 2 females for each male. Don't be shy to put in quite a few species into a single tank. I am talking of 3-4ft and bigger. I run around 8-10 species, 25-35 fish, per tank. My supplier, of wild caughts, has fish of his own and I have had some species breed which he has not been successful with. His are separated a species per tank and when he made a communal tank he had greater success. All my fish filter through the sandy bottom after being fed.
Once you have a female carrying I would suggest you leave her for about 7 days before catching her and putting her into a breeding net you can hang from the side of the tank. Leave her in this for 2-3 days after she has released the fry. I feed mine 3x per day, small amounts, to help her a little before releasing back into the main tank.
Let me know how you progress and you can always e-mail me directly if you would like some futher advice.
I have about 40 species, mainly mbuna, and have a total of 115 fish. Presnetly have 4-5 females carrying and 5 sets of fry growing. I have also just recently supplied my supplier with a total af around 150 F1 fry.
Good luck and let me know how you go.
