Hi everyone,

I am very new to this site. I purchased a juvie FL 3 weeks ago and he was fine up until couple of days ago. I noticed he rubbed his body against the rocks. He doesn't do it often, just every now and then. Lately, he doesn't like eating pellets and flakes, but still eats frozen bloodworm and dried brine shrimp. Yesterday morning he was still eating and swimming fine. In the afternoon, I fed him raw shrimp without shell. Then at night, he started to act weird, rubbing body against rocks a few times, and stayed in a corner. I tried to feed him food but he didn't want it. He was skittish and somewhat scared. Before buying the FL, I read into it a lot and read up on all the diseases. But I am having difficulty trying to figure out what condition he has. My FL is a pearl scale so the body has many white/pearl spots. So I can't differentiate between the scales and ICH. Don't know if he has ICH. His belly looked a bit big last night, so it could be bloated. I thought it could also be dropsy. I used to have a Yellow Electric cichlid in the tank, but they were aggressive with each other so I separated them. I noticed the tail on the FL is a bit damaged. I thought it was probably because the YE bit it. But could it be fin rot??
Today, he is back to normal again and eating like crazy and comes out to me. However he still rubs his body against rocks couple of times. I am wondering also if it was because of the raw shrimp I fed him (I probably also overfed him). If anyone has any ideas and suggestions, I would greatly appreciated.
The water parameters are fine. 0 ammonia and nitrite. About 10 Nitrate, 7PH. Temp was 80 and I raised to 85 today. I currently run 2 filters, Fluval 406 canister and Marineland Penguin 350. I changed water every week, 30%.

Thank you.

So my Flowerhorn also rubs his body against things in the tank - “flashing”
It’s random .. could go a week without doing it to doing it for a minute at a time. He eats well, poop is fine, non-distended belly, I can’t figure it out either.
Your fishes color looks really good. I can’t see any white spots on him.
For my guy I’m starting to believe it could be the water quality that causes it. The additives from the water company even though I condition the water and change it religiously.
I am going to an RO/DI system and am going to see if this fixes it.
Good luck man!

Thanks. I change water weekly too and use prime for conditioning. Hope your FL is fine.

So my FL's fi is slowly growing back now. But now there's a white spot on his gill. Anyone knows what it is? Hope it's not ICH or some other disease.
