I have finally decided to do a Native tank out of my 450 gallon 8'x3'x2.5' with a 150 gallon sump with a Hammerhead pump and two canisters ehiem 2260. Wondering what you all think for as numbers of fish and species that would work for this set up. I am in north Texas and have a nice creek and farm pond on my friends place for collecting fish. So far I have caught white and black crappie, native creek LMB and tiger LMB in the pond, short and long nose gar, sand bass, channel catfish, and about five different sunfish while fishing. So should be no problem stocking the new tank. I would like some LMB, the various sunfish, crappie, and not sure on a gar or the catfish. Im just not sure on the numbers of each fish that would work for this setup. Thinking of 2-3LMB and building around that.

Thanks

I'd do 2 LMB, 1 shortnose gar, 2-3 crappie, 1 channel catfish, then fill in with various sunfish (large species only, such as 4-5 bluegills or redbreast).

1 Striper, 1 LMB and a channel cat or 1 LMB, 1 SMB and a channel cat

If you're going to have any gar, do shortnose gar, and do several of them. Lone gar are nice, but you get to see a wider range of interactions and behaviors if you have a group.

If you have Guadalupe Bass in your area that would rock (if its legal)! I would just skip the Sunfish.....if you get Gars of Bowfin or a largemouth bass they will end up eating them anyway.
