I recently got a new tank of 10 x 3-4" RBPs and had a question. Do I need to put a pleco in it ? I have a 838 canister filtering the 80G ATM. what would be the pros and cons to adding or not adding a ugly pleco? Sorry if I offended those who adore those bottom dwellers! HEHE

First off the pleco will get eaten, anything u put in the tank will die, and the fish even kill eachother so expect to lose a few along the way, 80gallons is adequate for 4-5 piranhas, but yours are still somewhat small, in a couple months you absolutely need to upgrade to a 150-180 gallons, I have 5 in a 90 and if I don't change the water every 5 days the nitrates spike, so you NEED 2x per week 50% water changes, piranhas are some of the most messy fish you can get, is the tank cycled?

General show is 15-20 gallons per fish

Anyways, get them on a food pellet (NLS,omega one) that will help them a lot and dont over feed, at that size one time per day is fine. Try talapia and shrimp too. No feeder fish!

when you do water changes, do you still keep the fishes in the tank? also why not feeders? The diet I mainly use is pellets, market shrimp, cod, ghost shrimp, and when I get bored a fat feeder. >.<

Imo plecos are useless for tank cleaning, they're just poop machines. Fish are fine staying in during water change, just watch your fingers. And feeders are okay just better off with with pellets etc, some places don't take great care of their feeders and can transfer disease to your fish.

Thanks for the info bros, definitely stay off the feeders.

Do a wc when ur nitrates hit 30-40ppm, that will prlly be 2x per week, only change 40-50% of the water at once.

If they can eat pellets you will have some healthy rbp, also talapia and shrimps are good. Just don't leave extra food in the
tank for more then a few hours.
