Hi Im new to these forum , nice to meet you all
i just got my second RTG about 22cm, i notice when i put the aro in the tank
the "whisker" (unsure what they called, it the two thingy infront of the mouth), 1 is pointing up and 1 is pointing down.

so i called up the seller , he told me possible damage from transfer. he also told me if i want to get the "whisker" back to normal is to CUT it all the way back and it will slowly grow back

i just wondering have any try it before and a link of video which people attempted

also is there any tips how to keep to arowana in same tanks

thanks

Was the barbel like that when you bought it? I don't know about cutting them i always thought they don't grow back as nice.

the barbel was like that when i got the fish and the previous owner told me just damage during transport and you just cut and they will grow back

that the reason i try to confirm it

please help

Okey here the thing, If your arowana is about 22cm mean that it is about 6 or 7 month old so it is possible for you to do the needle treatment(when you cut your arowana babels so it can grow back straight). Here is the instruction to perform this treatment.
1.Administer anaesthesia to your arowana to make it unconscious(read the instruction on how to use anaesthesia carefully because it can kill your fish if over used)
2.cut your arowana babels nearly at the root( Becarful not to cut at the root of the babels)
3.after you cut your arowana babel(be careful not to cut at the root of the babels because it may be impossible for the babels to grow back) use a fine needle to prick at the root region untill it swollen and bleeding after this you can apply some antiseptic and put your arowana back in the tank but if your fish haven't regain conscious you have to increase aeration and put the gill cover and wait untill it regain it's consciousness.

Please note that it take along time for the babels to grow back( Up to 6 months for the young fish and up to 1 year for an older fish) so you have to ask yourself do you really want to do this or not?

I hope this is gonna help.

thanks for the help Kopo
but can i cut the babels without putting the antiseptic?
i think i wanna cut because atm the babels 1 is pointing up and 1 is pointing down so it llok very crap

You can but just make sure that your water is in a very good condition..., and if you don't want to use the anaesthesia you can just quickly cut off your fish babel but don't prick it babel root(It slow down the growing process without pricking the root but in return your fish won't be freak out too much) and put it back into water after that close all the tank light and leave your fish alone or just observe it quietly.
I'm glad that I can help..

man Kopo you like arowana GURU
and you add a little bit of " Pool Salt" to fasten the recovery time?

thanks

Yes by add some pool salt will fasten the recovery time. I once cut my arowana babel but I didn't add the pool salt and it grow back in about 2 month( It fast because i only cut about half of the babel). Good luck with your RTG and It would be nice if you can add some photos of your fish.

im new to this club
im still trying to work out some function
and also im moving to my new house, so everything is packing up
my plan is cut the babels before moving house and wait till the fish kinda heal up
then i will move it to new tank which is 6ft x 3ft x 2.5ft

i have also read somewhere that after you drug your aro. dont just chuck it back in the tank. instead hold it facing flowing water i.e. powerhead, to help flush out the crack in its system. kinda like releasing a fish when you are fishing. for some reason, if you dont do that the drugs might cause a swim bladder problem.
