My senegal bichir seems to be having problems swimming down to the tank bottom.. It just keeps floating on top & struggling to go down..
Everytime it swims down, its tail will automatically bring it back to the surface.. I'm really concerned as it has been struggling to reach the bottom for half a day now.. I'd it for about a month & this is the first time I've seen it like this..
Also, its body looks weird.. it's curved at the mid section..
Please advice..

it has a swim bladder disorder. go to an online fish disease site or call your local lfs.

It's been one day since I fed it.. I usually feed it twice a day, no overfeeding.. it only eats when it is hungry..
Today it just stays at a corner, stagnant.. & its body is even more curved than yesterday.. :(
What problem/disease is this? & what could have caused this..
I don't even know what to do right now.. I know it's suffering & don't want to see it die.....
Should I take it out to quarantine it?

p.s. what is swim bladder disorder? is it fatal?

swim bladder problem?

from what i heard, try to make the water level slightly few inches higher than the bichir.
add in some salt and slowly wait for them to recover.

I was thinking of doing the same thing.. I plan to put it in a small tub.. but how much salt to put in? Is it ok to overdose salt?

AARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!! :(:(:(:(:(
The moment I put it in the tub, it turned upside down.. I think it is dying..
When I tried holding it upright with my hands, I noticed some fluid(blood?) coming out from it's gill... It's depressing to watch it suffer like this..
It is still upside down & barely breathing...... & the tub is full of bubbles which I think is caused by its slime coat....
Can anyone at least tell me what is wrong with it? Even if it dies, at least I know the cause of it......
Guess I'll have to say goodbye to it....

p.s. I forgot to mention that its left eye looks blind/dead(white in colour)...

yes it seems like a swim bladder disorder or some kind of internal blockage some fish are born with problems or some thing developes before you got the Polly. sorry I know it sad and hurtful.
