I have a pair of Nano's (M/F) the male is constantly picking on the female. He keeps her at the top corner of the tank (20 gal) so i put 7 siquia (3/8 long) in with them. He pays no attention to them and still beats up the female. I also lower'd the temp still no change. Any help would be appreciated.

I have not had any luck keeping these as just pairs either. I did not have success with them until I tried 2 males and 3 females in a 30g. Try to get some more of them to spread out the aggression.

I have had a pair in a tank together but there were other cichlids in with them. They were very good together and never had any issues. Try putting some other mild cichlids in with them to give them someone to defend together against. right now I have 2 pair in a 24 x 24 cube tank and have both pairs spawning in their own territory. The male needs someone he sees as a threat so he will leave the female alone. He doesn't see the siquia as a threat and still takes it out on the female I would guess.

Try a partial divider .

I have a small group of 2 pairs and an odd male or female in a 30 Long...i have little to no issues with aggression.
Sound like adding more of the same speices would be the most efefctive. The male must want to spawn and the female is not reasy.... odds are he'll end up killing her unless you seperate them somehow
Just my opinion

What I would do is put a divider between them. I have a male myself and he picks on everything in the tank except for my haitiensis. Give him some time too cool down, then in a week or two remove the divider.

i'm going to try and separate them for a little while and see if that helps.
I just seperated my male using a divider, and now my tank is peaceful again. Good luck with yours!
