just got a 6" alligator gar. he's in an 80 gallon (3x2x2) with a 5" rtc. i got him a week ago and i have only actually seen him eat 2 minnows. i don't think it is possible that my rtc has eaten all the feeders that have gone missing since i feed him lots of pellets and frozen krill. are there signs to look for that my gar is not getting enough food? he seems to be a pretty terrible hunter. he generally does not even go near the minnows. is there a different type of food that i can give him that is easier to catch? he swims away from any frozen food i try to give him. are live crickets and mealworms ok to try?

just so you all know, he doesn't look thin/emaciated at all. and i am currently in the process of building a 8x5x2.5 tank that will be completed before june. i have read the threads about weaning onto frozen food. i have tried putting string thru krill and moved them around in the water to no avail. i have even tried this with a feeder in desperation... if he is really hungry and i dangle some krill in front of him he will eat them eventually right? im just concerned that he will not get the proper nutrition at this early stage of development because he cant catch the minnows.

you shouldn't keep gr with RTC, especially when they are young! separate them is a good way to do now!
