dull environment = dull fish. Start with swapping the sand out for some colored gravel, and add a colored background. What are you currently feeding him? I suggest you get him on a staple of omega one cichlid pellets, hikari, new life spectrum, or something in that category. Krill will help bring out his reds. The sooner you get him in a bigger tank the more improvement you'll get out of him.

sounds like everything is right but the decor. There's a sticky on the top of the flowerhorn forum with more info about background/gravel for flowerhorns you could benefit from reading. The fish looks great though he' still settling in too.

Probably just stressed and needs to settle in! My rd did the same and the red dulls to pink till I turn the lights on or feed him.

New background: Check

now as for gravel could i leave the sand and just add a few colored stones on top?
and for feeding how many times a day should i feed him currently its twice daily
i would want him to grow fast but i dont want to stunt his hump growth either
any suggestions

You can add stones if u want... What is the temp and ph of the tank? You want your temp above 84 and PH above 7.5. Adding crushed coral will raise PH if it is too low and a heater will raise temp if that is too low... This fish is still young so give him a chance... He looks like a winner to me bro.

is there anything i can do to help his head grow?
i see potential but what can i do to bring that potential out
