hi just set up my new 60 gal.tank has been running for 3 days with cycle chemical added.when do i add my fish in?do i need to put fish in there to help the tank cycle?need adivice thanx
You can put straight ammonia to fully cycle your tank. Just add enough to get a 4ppm everyday until you get an ammonia spike. Then continue adding and you will get a nitrite spike. Once the nitrites return to 0 your good to go.
you can use ammonia, but you can also use a few hardy fish, they will help the tank cycle because they will be creating the waste that is needed to cycle it, and like the other person said, once the ammonia spikes and goes back down to ), you are fine, but watch out because it will spike everytime you add new fish. Good luck!
i wouldn't ever use hardy fish to cycle a tank IMO it isn't good practice. if you use ammonia thats the best way to go. and no if the tank is fully cycled it will not make your ammonia peak when a new fish is added unless you add alot of fish at once and which is never a good idea. if you increase the bio-load to fast the tank will "mini-cycle"
