so its predicted that theres gonna be an ice storm in my area and im woried about the power going out i do hav a battery opperated air pump but who knows how long the power could go out and what about filtration should i just do lots of water changes to make up for it?

thanks

-Matt

Do at least a 60% water change today. Have your pumps ready, and get comforters (like from a bed) or that sheet plastic to cover the tanks should the power go out. I wrapped a comforter around one of my tanks once, it stayed really warm for a while, and at least will prevent a sudden decrease in the temperature of their tanks.

well if your power is out you probably won't have heated water either will you?

i've considered this same predicament. have a couple battery air pumps but i think what i'd do in that situation is just throw thick blanks over the tanks to try and keep as much heat in the water as possible, put the filter media in socks in the tank to keep BB alive, and not feed the fish until it's over cuz you don't want to add more waste to the system, they'll be fine for a week or 2 depending on the type of fish

haha you beat me to it while i was typing lauda. basically same advice though, good call on the large WC

and no i do not i wish i did but seeing as im 14 and i have no money and my parents think that theyre a waste of money cuz weve never needed one ill have to use batteries and blankets for now

We go camping a lot in an rv trailer which is why we have them. But Yes batteries and blankets are your best bet.
