im currently lookin to get a nother pictus since our last one died an im wantin to grow a monster. any ideas on what to feed him to get a big pictus? like beefheart or what?

beef heart(DO NOT FEED ALL THE TIME)
massivore pellets
and im sure they would love shrimp pellets

They will get big and fat off pretty much everything. I know when it's time to feed my tank because the pictus' tummy goes back to normal, LOL.

ghost shrimp, feeder guppies, blood worm cubes, beef heart, earthworms, sinking pellets. just about anything. also pictus never do get "big" the biggest i have heard of was 7 inches, but that is rare 5-6 is more common... hope this helps

dont know what you have for a tank but if you have atleast a 125 for life the larger cousin to the pictus, the 4 line pim gets larger and grows faster. guppies ghost shrimp and feeder goldfish have almost absolutely no nutritional value and will not help your fish grow faster, only thing they will do is take up more space in his belly and cost you more money you could have spent and filled his belly with quality foods, like raw deshelled market shrimp, silversides, massivore, pieces of fish fillet or market squid. get massivore as a staple food and feed the other things on a rotation to keep the diet varied, and do enough w/c's to keep your nitrates below 10ppm and your fish will grow the fastest it possibly can.

A couple of years ago I thought that Pictus catfish were really cool looking (still do) and without thought or checking up on them I got two and added them to my community tank , I loved their markings and long whiskers and the way they explored the tank constantly , and they ate all food offered . Then they started to grow , and they started to eat more aggresivly , and grew some more , then my other fish started to disappear , and when I fed anything to the other fish , the Pictus went wild to stuff as much as they could into their mouths and went into hiding unless there was food on the go .
In those days I thought I had a huge 55 gallon tank ... ha ha ha , and if I dropped anything , blood-worms , brine-shrimp , flakes into the tank they would sense it and zoom out and eat everything until they were full and go back to hiding , then I could feed the others .
I eventually gave them up for adoption to someone who had fish that couldn't fit into their mouths , they were about 5 inches when they left , as far as I can see they top out about 6/7 inches , but in my 55 gallon they were "monsters" ... ha ha ha .
Enjoy Them -David-
