Help with plants in cichlid tank

I don't know much of jungle vals. I don't think africans like a lot of plants. I have two plants in my tank, I forget what kind they are.... some kind of anubia maybe. I just remember buying a plant that they weren't supposed to eat. I don't used root tabs or any fertilizers, my plants are small and slow growing but it doesn't bother me. They just give the tank alittle more natural look, I have them glued to a couple lava rocks and they've been in my tank for over a year now.
Root tabs won't harm the cichlids, but the cichlids will harm the roots. I bet you would have more success with something like java fern or anubias that tie to rocks and latch on, rather than substrate feeding plants.
