Im most likely moving to maryland and I want a snakehead. It is going to be planted. I want a fixture over the tank. Im going to do co2, and a special substrate, but I dont know what kinds to do. I The tank is going to be a 40 breeder. Can you guys give me some suggestions on what will make my plants thrive? Thank you! :)

Ok I read it. Still what kind of substrate would work best? Im lost! :(

Whichever you choose to use. Flourite, eco complete, laterite, aqua soil, ADA Aqua soil, all work fine.

Do you have any experiance with any of these? If so, which one/s are/is best?

I've worked with all of them except the ADA aquasoil, which is the best IMO. Fluorite will work really well, eco complete has never been too great for me, and doesn't last that long. Laterite is the old way of doing it, but works very well.

For lights, how about coral life? I heard they are pretty good. If I go coral life, should I get a coral life fixture, or something like a Perfecto or AGA tripple bulb set ups and put coral lifes in there. What have you used? Id like to hear from the best! :D

What type of plants do you intend to keep? How deep is the tank? Will you be injecting co2 (reaction or pressurized)? Will you be dosing ferts, what kind? These will dictate what type of light you need.

1. Mainly sword's, anubia's and anything that catches my eye.
2. The tank is 16" deep.
3. Yes, co2 will be done. DIY. How many coke bottles, 2?
4. Yes ferts. Ill look into root tabs. But every 2 days, I add 3 cap full's of Kent Freshwater Plant, and Kent Freshwater Pro-plant. http://www.azgardens.com/plant_fertilizers.php The third and fourth product down.

Thanks, Andrew.

Well the plants you have your eyes on currently don't need much in the way of lighting, co2 can be used, but isn't necessary. I'd get rid of the kent ferts, they work about as good as water for my plants. Greg Watson's ferts are much cheaper, and better.
