Hey everyone. I have a 135 gallon acrylic used tank I got cheap.

I’m wanting to hook up 2 FX6s to the plumbing but I’m a little confused on what equipment I need and how to do it.

The tank has a 1.5” bulkhead and a 1” bulkhead in the center overflow. Then it has two 1 inch bulkheads on the back of the tank on the left and right sides. See picture for details.

can the right and left Bulkheads work without any strainer or return nozzle? I have no idea what would fit in them.

Nice pickup. 1.5" pipe stand drain to a sump, 2x 1" returns from pump(s), and use the 1" in overflow for emergency drain? Least that's what I'd do. Not sure how you'd go about hooking a canister up to a drilled tank with an overflow. (or why, personally preference I guess...)

Good looking tank. It's pretty much set up to run just as Jon M Jon M described. The returns are big for that tank imo but that's not a bad thing.

for the returns, look into vivid creative aquatics. They make modular loc-line and fittings in 1" as well as some pretty slick RFG nozzles that will fit a variety of different bulkhead styles and purposes.

If you want to hook up the fx6s, here's what I would do: hook up both intakes to the overflow box. You just need a 1.5" to 1" reducer for the 1.5" bulkhead. You can use barb fittings on the outside of the bulkheads and 1" vinyl hose to connect them to the fx6s (the quick connect fittings on the fx6 fit 1" hose perfectly). Then use the same to hook each fx6 return into the corner holes which appear to already have barb fittings.

Thanks man! I ended up just plumbing a sump into it. Figured I might as well set up a herbie overflow and get as much water through the drains as I can. Guess my flowerhorn is getting an upgrade with the FX6 😅

Good point. I ended up plumbing it for a sump like you said. Threw a gate valve in the larger drain and turned it into a herbie overflow. Tbh I had 2 FX6s lying around and where I live Home Depot and Lowe’s are always short on a barb or a fitting that I need and plumbing ends up being a pain in the A. Lucked out this time and found everything I needed
