have a 100 up now that has been running with the following fish for quite some time: 1 male severum, 1 male chocolate, 3 large silver dollars, 1 6in bala, assorted, small catfish/plecs, and 10 neons. There is no aggression between anyone in the tank besides the sev and chocolate, who dont eat anyone or any feeders. The fights have gotten worse as they have aged, both around 6 inch at least now. Recently the severums fins have been getting torn to shreds and I am wondering what to do. I have tried re-arranging the layout many times with no success at all. I would rather not remove either because they are beautiful and cool fish, should I add someone else to maybe help disperse aggression, or what? Thanks

If you already have the neons and silver dollars, you probably won't have luck with any dithers. Maybe get another cichlid so there is not the dominant fish. I wouldn't have any trouble keeping the three in that tank as long as the filtration is good, otherwise just get rid of the bala.

They're cichlids and they're reaching sexual maturity. If someone had a solution to that they'd be rich and fish forums would be lonely places to visit <g>. People always say to change the decor around, add fish, remove fish, etc. But I can't imagine it works for longer than a day. I've got quite a few fish in seperate tanks because of the same problem you're having. Fish don't read books and quite often there's just nothing you can do but seperate.

Yeah I have somewhat reached the conclusion that these two just may not get along. Oh well, ill keep them together as long as the fighting isnt too bad, just have to figure out what im going to do in the long run
