IN A PLACE
Hi,

So it isn't extremely urgent but I need some advice on why my motoro's head is all scratched up. Water parameters: temp 80's, ph 7.0, nitrate 10ppm, nitrite and ammonia 0 (I tested). She eats great and I never see her get picked on by the other fish in the tank. Tank is a 350g w/ another motoro, 2 jack dempseys, 1 vieja synsplisum, 7 super red sevrums, 1 silver arowan, and a lepornicus. The lepornicus will nip at fish from time to time but I have never see him go after the rays. The only other thing I can think of is that I have a piece of manzanita wood with branches touching near the bottom. I moved it up so the rays can't even touch it with the tops of their head. I want to post a pic but mfk is acting funny. please help. Thanks

Just keep up with regular water changes. Rays heal quickly. Might dim the lights in the room and watch the tank from a distance to see if a tank mate is doin the damage. Male and female rays? Size?

I will check it out tonight. Male ray is about 8" disc size and the female is about 10" disc. The female is the one with the white head. Hopefully, I can post a pic when I get home. I do a 40% wc every 10 days.

You have a lot of potential suspects there. I vote for the cichlids (possible spawning) or the Leporinus. I would take out any potentially sharp decor and see if it improves

just remove anything sharp or pointy object. or just smooth the sharp edge with a file. as far as the suspects if they were going to acttack the ray it would be all over her disk not just the head area.

She is doing better and skin is growing back. I caught the lepornicus biting both rays' tails yesterday and took him out of the tank--no bites on the discs. The manzanita is out of reach for them to scratch against, these rays rarely want to climb.
