I picked up a peacock bass yesterday that i am growing out for a friend, it is about an inch long and isnt really eating yet. He goes after pellets and flakes but he just chews them and spits them out. He is in a heavily planted 29 gallon. Temp is 85, ph 6.4, nitrates >5ppm nitrite and amonia 0. Any tips would be great as this is my first time raising a pbass

Give him some time. If he is already going after pellets, he will eventually figure out that its food and eat them.
Ive got six bass, the same size as yours. I have gotten four of them on pellets, two more to go. They did the same thing as yours is doing, they would grab the pellet then chew it and spit it out.

a few more bass will help trigger a feeding frenzy. 85 is ok. I perfer 86-87. try frozen bloodworms. thaw em out into a little dish. then drain the liquid. crush a few pellets into them. stir it up(marley voice). let it soak for a few minutes. should be kinda pasty. feed with a spoon droppin in bite size pieces. he should hammer it. over time add more pellets. eventually he will be eatn all pellets for you. dithers like silver dollars are also a good dither to coax a frenzy.
