hi guys , i want to ask for your expertise on the red tailed catfish , at the moment i have myn in a 182 gallon tank , 7 foot long , the question is realistically how big should i let him get before moving him to a bigger aquarium or even pond , would he be ok at 3 ft in this tank . im uk based and it seems to be less people here with knowledge of the bigger cats . any info would be great , Andy

Three feet is way to large for that size tank I would let him get maybe a foot and a half maybe even smaller depending on how see the tank is?

that tanks probably 2ft wide? so id say 18 inches before you need to consider getting him a bigger tank.
ok cheers , yer it is about 2 ft , he is not a permanent fixture just untill he is too big to live comfortably anymore , i think anyone who has a rtc has to be willing to give him or her up unless they have the money to fund thousands of gallons for an adult one , i picked myn up for £20 at 8inches , in the pet store in about a 10 litre box , joke really . its a shame they wont live in cold water ive got a 1000 gallon pond in the garden lol could never afford to heat it
