I know a I got a royal pleco, not sure if its a L-190 or L-191. There feeding habbits are the same though right? I havnt seen him eat. Every time I feed krill (once every 3 days or so), I always feed more then nessisary and there is always krill on the bottom for him and my catfish. Its always gone in the morning. I have tossed a quarter sized piece of zuccini in there for him, and it floated. So a wedged it under a pice of driftwood, it was floating in the morning. Anyone know if he could be eating. He's in the 75g tank. His tankmates are in my signature. Does anyone have an idea if hes eating, or any tips to give me. This is my first pleco, someone help please :) :nilly:

dont worry about him too much, they can eat wood. if you want to feed him green stuff, make sure it stays on the bottom by putting a spoon or something thru it. otherwise try a piece of algae wafer. dont feed too much krill, royals have a hard time digesting much protein and it can kill them. Ive seen my royals' belly swell like a ******!!

Mine will eat shrimp, algae tablets and zucchini. I take strips of zucchini and weigh it down with plant weights.

He eats the algae on the glass too. Do you guys ever see your royals eat?

they are nocturnal and do a lot of eating at night. Its best to put a spoon through the courgette like stiffy said. There are plenty of things that you can try and it will eat. How long you had him, they don't always eat straight away, i've had plecs that eat straight out of the bag, and others that won't eat for a week until they are settled. Some of them I can throw food on, and they'll be looking for it in seconds, others will wait till lights out, each is different.

It was either tuesday or wednesday. The spoon idea is good. But should I feed him more meats or vegies?

primarily veggies. Veggies with a lot of roughage in is good, things like potatoes (washed and soaked to reduce starch content). Things like peas are good because they are very nutritious. Courgette and cucumber are good, but they dont have the best content, so should offer other foods. Check out the dietry thread which is stickied.

Do peas sink?

You can cut a zucchini in half lengthwise and then cut a smaller piece from one of the halves and rubber band it to a rock. You can carve out a small slit on the piece of zucchini so the rubber band sits low. Don't worry, the Royals love veggies. You can also put a piece of romaine lettuce on a lettuce clip and attach it to the front glass. Mine loves that too. Don't be afraid to try different foods. Try sweet potato also. Hope this helps.
