For sand in my new tank can I just go to the beach and get some of the dry sand on the beach. I know you shouldnt use wet sand because of parasites and stuff but if its dried out would everything be dead? Let me know if it can work.
Thank you,
Ryan

I've done that ...
used an large cooking strainer to sift the debris out of it ...

After I sifted it - then I rinsed it real good ... had no problem

Do yourself a favor .... do NOT have filters running when you stir up the sand when adding sand or water.

it's hard on the filters - especially canister's - the impellers get tore up real good from the wet sanding!

Is the a difference between brown and white sand? The sand I bought was white underwater but the sand from the beach is brown/black when its underwater. Does that mean anything or is it just different sand.

I agree I did it on Sunday and am still trying to fix it. That was a big mistake I made. Im trying to siphon it out so I can replace it with live sand.
