i was wondering what is the best way to put sand into a tank that is already filled with water. i was thinking of try to fill small containers with sand then putting it at the bottom of the tank then trying to gently pouring in out without making the tank all cloudy or ruining my filters with the sand.

rinse the heck out of it.. the cleaner it is the less it will cloud the water..

That's the only I can think of if you don't want it to be stirred up to bad.

when i did it, my tank was full and stocked with fish.
After i took out the gravel, i rinsed the heck out of the sand.

then i took wire strainers... the fine mesh strainers.

and scooped the sand out of the buckets into the tank. that way i dont get any extra water and i could lower the sand to the bottom by hand and then pour it out. I only had a very tiny amount of cloudiness for a couple hours!

it didnt take very long either believe it or not.
