I have 5 juvenile rotkeil severums in a 90g tank (4"). I'm growing them out hoping for a pair then I'll be re-tanking or re-homing the others.

I have a senior citizen gold severum in a 55g. She's around 8 years old I believe. I received her from a friend. There is also a heros severus (3") that was beat up before I got him in the same 55g tank.

In addition, I have a juvenile turquoise severum in another 55g tank (2").

I'm not happy with my sevs being in 55g's. I feel they need more space.

To improve their current environments while I upgrade some of my 55g's to 75g and 90g's, would they all be happier in the 90g together as the only tank members? I'll have all the tanks upgraded within a year.

Any thoughts, opinions, and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Honestly I breed my red sevs in my 55g and they are just fine, in fact they even have keyhole tankmates along with tetras and coreys, really sevs are not too hard to please

u could put some in a 125gal....

I could and I'll definitely be considering that, but right now the largest tank I have is a 90g. I'm trying to improve their current living conditions immediately while I work on the tank upgrades.

Do you think all of them in the 90g would be an improvement to their current conditions?

Interesting. How big are your sevs? How big were they when you got them? The reason I ask is because I'm concerned about the turquoise because he hasn't grown much in the six months I've had him. He kinda started the whole "upgrade" thought process.

Is that all species or only the rotkeils? I need to plan accordingly.

Thank you both for your quick responses and assistance.

A 90gal is ok for adult 2 severum and a 125gal is good for adult 3 severum

i actually think that a 125g would be good for two adult pairs, and 75g will be good for a pair as long as they are by themselves with no other tankmates, but yeah i think that how you have them right now is alright til you can find another 75g or 90g, a 55g is fine for a single severum IMO and i dont know why that turquoise severum by himself is not growing if he is in a 55g all by himself, how often/much do you do water changes and is it possible that he could have parasites keeping him from growing properly?

He's not totally by himself. He is with a trio of HRP's and a jaguar catfish. I got him from Petsmart, so parasites could be a possibility. I do 25% water changes weekly. He gets cichlid flake (Kensfish) mixed with earthworm flake, X-treme cichlid pellets, and others (it's a mixture of 4-5 different high quality flakes all from Kensfish) 4 times a week and frozen krill, bloodworms, daphnia, bbs, freeze-dried blackworms and spiriluna mixture 3 times a week.

Would you recommend treating for parasites since there are no other symptoms? The HRP's breed regularly and the fry grow well.
