Hello so for the last couple weeks my Thai silk Flowerhorn has been acting abit weird, when I’m not infront of the tank he’s been standing upright acting abit odd although he still comes up for food looking pretty normal, i noticed his hump kok has gone down also, I think it might be swim bladder , anyone have any thoughts? (Sorry for the the algae in the pictures)

I’d guess swim bladder. Check ur water parameters.

Thanks for the advice, I checked the water a couple days ago and the parameters are looking good, no change from what I can see, he’s still eating but the minute he’s done he goes back to upright position

Maybe add some epsom salt solution to the food.

Yeah I will try and do that and also feed some peas, I’ve been feeding only spirilina brine shrimp frozen cubes the last 2 weeks to help, I’m afraid his mobility will be permanently limited after this swim bladder , from what I’ve heard that happens often and they never go back to normal

It's never good when a Silk starts down this road. Probably best to euthanize now.
Yeah I’m afraid I’m not too hopeful for this guy, I had a silk awhile ago that made it until about 2 years old and then the parasites and swim bladder happened and it wasn’t long after that everything went downhill , this guy is barely a year old and he’s already in bad shape

It sucks for sure man I'm sorry. Mine made it to 4 years old, the last year was depressing with some kind of systemic breakdown.
Thanks man I appreciate the advice , I’m debating on putting him in a spare 45 to live out his days, I had a red dragons a few years ago that made it to 3 years old but the last year was terrible he was still eating but losing control of his functions and the parasites took over, also my Thai silk is not even a year old so I can’t imagine it gets better from here

I used to think the problem with silks was inbreeding depression. Now I'm wondering if these hybrids with the solid full body pearl like Thai Silk and EBJD have guanine deposits forming within the body and organs, hardening off and blocking vital functions as they grow.
When he kicks do an autopsy and see if that swim bladder is shiny.
