Hey guys, I currently have 2 angelfish (about as big as they get, maybe 3" wide, with 5" tip to tip vertically) and an african knife fish (about 6"...prob. fully grown...doesn't grow very fast) and 3 african spotted bush fish (commonly called leopard leaf fish? Ctepoma (spelling?) is the genus) and they are about 3-4" each. I have a 55 gallon tank that's pretty well planted and I recently lost my bichir...he lept from the the tank while I was away...very sad...so at this point...(which I may add...the other 6 beasts ate EVERYTHING in the tank...mainly small schooling tetras...predictable, while I was away)...I want to look into something interesting for the "bottom" level of the tank...also, I really want an Eartheater but fear another "middle" tier fish will crowd or not get along with the other fish...I'm considering another Bichir, or a vampire shrimp (maybe both)...anybody have suggestions or comments on compatibility? I love oddball fish and want to stick with that type of idea...I've researched Eartheaters (as stated above), Bichirs (which I'm very familiar with) spiny eels (which seem too delicate for my tank, I have gravel, etc.) vampire shrimp, bamboo shrimp, hi band chinese shark (water needs to be too cold for the angels)...so if anyone has tips, suggestions, I'd appreciate it...My tank is looking bare right now...I was considering adding Silver Dollars to get some "movement" in the tank, but I don't want them to grow beyond 3" in size, and anything else too small gets eaten...INSTANTLY. THoughts? thanks!

Oh, and I've also considered an african butterfly fish (as they are awesome) but the top water section of the tank has a lot of floating plants to help dim the lights for the angels, bushies, and knife fish and I'd be concerned that it wouldn't have enough..."movement" space up there...I could "rearrange" but I fear it'll break the subtle lighting that keeps my tank active all day for these "dusk" active fish I have...

sorry to hear about your bichir, if i were you i'd either get another bichir or a peacock eel as oddball options, if you were to go for something a bit more normal id say get a few pictus cats
