help with sump set up?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ah, the overflow

Def the overflow if the pump is larger you will fill your tank and flood your floors since the overflow cant drain as much water as your pumping into the aquarium.

Overflow.
Remember, just because the pump says it will pump 1000gph doesnt mean it will at say, 5ft head pressure. Also, just because the overflow says it will flow 1500gph doesnt mean it will or you should. If you try and max out an overflow, you can suck air into it, not good.

my verflow is suppose to be 1000 gph
i planed to by mag 1200 with 5-6 head pressusre
1050-950
or i buy the mag 900
with head pressrure from 800-750
sumptin like that
in your prionio witch would be better

could really use some help
exact measurement 5 1/4 ft from pump to top of tank
and another 5 in down into tank
so do i count it from 5 feet or about 6 ft
cause if its at 5 im going to get the 950, but if i count it
at 6 feet then ill get the 1200

As your overflow is rated to 1000 gph I would go with the 950 pump (750 gph @ 5' head). This should keep it well within the overflows limits to prevent flooding. If you buy a second overflow you can always buy a 2nd pump to upgrade your filtration later.
I add a foot of head if there are any 90 degree bends in the return pipe work, it is why I have soft tubing on my returns with a single 90 degree bend on each input into the tank. I read here somewhere to do that to make gph estimations more accurate.
